sports photography awards

The Sports Journalists’ Association is delighted that Canon UK is continuing to support the British Sports Photography Awards with sponsorship of two key awards and traditionally the photographic exhibition at the event.
Canon have not only been an amazing backer of the SJA and our awards but have been a strong supporter of young people trying to break into the industry. At the last awards they supported the SJA in introducing the Young Sports Photographer of the Year Award. Canon invited the winner of this award and other shortlisted young photographers to attend as their guests and meet some of the most experienced photographers in the business.
The video on this page is on an event they ran earlier in the year giving young people the opportunity to learn tips and tricks from professional sports photographers.

There are 7 categories across sports photography, recent years have seen the addition of the Away from the Action Category and the Young Sports Photographer as well as changes being made to increase the number of pictures photographers can enter into the Sports Picture of the Year and Away from the Action Categories.
The Canon Sports Photographer of the Year is awarded to the photographer who, in the opinion of the judges, has been the overall best sports photographer of 2020 and has demonstrated an outstanding range of photographic skills. This will be judged on submitted entries into the other 6 categories. All other categories are subject to entered submissions which are put before our panel of judges.
The deadline for entries is midnight on 20 January 2021. All entries must be submitted via the online entry system. Look below to see a selection of shortlisted photographs from last years awards. To see the full shortlist click here.
